Blueberry refers to the plants of genus Vaccinium, which also includes cranberries, bilberries and many wild shrubs. This plant produces edible, round, blue berries (botanically false berries) with flared "crowns" at the end. In North America, the most common cultivated species is V. corymbosum, the Northern Highbush Blueberry. These plant can be both cultivated or picked wild. The fruit color is first white, then reddish-purple, and turn blue on ripening. They are used in jellies, jams & pies. Improves antioxidant in body and provides special protection from oxidative stress and helps in the protection of cardiovascular system. Large numbers of phytonutrients are found in blueberries. This helps raise body resistance to the diseases.

Blueberries are rich in fiber, vitamins A and C, low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. They are also a good source of antioxidants and can be eaten raw, cooked with other foods, or dried for use in tea. Any form of  blueberries in our diet are good for skin because of their many vitamins and nutrients. Whether you suffer from acne, broken capillaries or splotchy skin, the nutrients in blueberries will help.
Although acne is typically attributable more to hormones than to the physical condition of  our skin, certain nutrients can counteract the hormonal conditions that encourage pimples. Many of the vitamins in blueberries may neutralize or normalize oil levels in your skin, making it healthier and less likely to accumulate sebum. Vitamin A, in particular, is used in a variety of acne-related skin treatments.

The antioxidants and phytochemicals found in blueberries help to neutralize free radicals, which might otherwise damage skin cells, leaving skin with a younger and softer look and feel. A diet high in fat and carbohydrates can also encourage skin aging, so blueberries prevent aging by providing many needed nutrients with very low levels of fat and cholesterol.

Black Berry

The blackberry is an aggregate fruit that is composed of many smaller fruits called drupes. The fruit is very dark purple with smooth, fragile skin. In the center of the cluster is a greenish-white core that extends to almost the bottom of the berry. Blackberries can be easily confused with raspberries, but raspberries (including black raspberries) have a hollow center. Blackberries are red and hard when they are immature and turn black and shiny when they ripen.

Prevents Heart Disease:
Strawberry is a wonder food in combating heart diseases because it is a rich source of potassium, fibre, folate, Vitamin-C, antioxidants and flavonoids. It help in the reduction of bad cholesterol (LDL) in the body. Flavonoids help in the proper functioning of arteries and prevent blood clotting. Vitamin-D in strawberries also helps in making the heart muscle strong and efficient. Looking at all those benefits, a heart patient should definitely consume lots of strawberries.

Wrinkle Free:
The power of vitamin C in strawberries continues, as it is vital in the production of collagen, that helps improve skin’s elasticity and resilience. Since we lose collagen as we age, eating foods rich in vitamin C may result in healthier, younger-looking skin. But vitamin C isn’t the only naturally-occuring wrinkle fighter found in strawberries. Researchers at Hallym University in the Republic of Korea concluded that ellagic acid visibly prevented collagen destruction and inflammatory response—two major factors in the development of wrinkles—in human skin cells, after continued exposure to skin-damaging UV-B rays.

Protects Eyes:
Antioxidants, Vitamin C, flavonoids, Phenolic Phytochemicals and Elagic Acid in strawberry protects against the free radicals from the sun’s UV-rays. Free radicals are the main reason for all the eye problems which arises during ageing i.e. macular degeneration, they can even dry up the eyes and can damage the optical nerves. However, consumption of strawberries can keep all the problems aside.

Benefits of Strawberry:
  • Reduction from high blood pressure as strawberry is a source of potassium and magnesium which inhibit absorption of sodium in the body.
  • Anthocyanins and Ellagic acidin strawberries help prevent various brain and neurological problems as they inhibit the entry of free radicals which are the prime source for declining of brain activities.
  • Potassium, Vitamin K, and magnesium in strawberries help in keeping the bones healthy and strong thus preventing osteoporosis.
  • Strawberries are great to maintain and reduce weight. Low quantity of sugar and sodium in it makes it so special. Providing only a few calories, it’s a must for all the health conscious.
