9 Health Benefits of Broccoli

Broccoli is a vegetable of  cruciferae family it is related to cauliflower, cabbage and turnipsIt is rich in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin C, calcium and folic acid.  Eating calciferous vegetables frequently protects our body against various stomach, colon, rectum and prostate cancers. Broccoli has as much protein as in a cup of rice or corn with half the calories. It will help our skin, nails and hair to look healthier. The ability of broccoli to prevent infections is due to a number of components that enhance the immune system.

1. Cancer prevention: Broccoli fights against cancer and is immune boosting other like vegetables such as cauliflower, sprouts and cabbage. An enzyme in broccoli called myrosinase can reduce the risk of developing cancer, it works by changing sulfur-based chemicals found in broccoli (called glucosinolates) into isothiocyanates (other sulfur-containing chemicals), that have anticancer properties.

2. Bone health: Broccoli contains high levels of both calcium and vitamin K, which are important for bone health and prevention of osteoporosis.

3. Anti-inflammatory. Broccoli is a particularly rich source of a flavonoid called kaempferol, which helps battle allergies and inflammation.

4. Improves deficiency: Broccoli contains vitamins A and K, which help to keep the metabolism of vitamin D in balance. Vitamin D promotes the body’s absorption of calcium and thereby sustain and promote bone health and growth.

5. Fiber: Fiber helps to lower cholesterol, facilitates digestion and it has high fiber content.
