Many people suffer from depression in life. Depression comes from sadness, anger, stress, emotions and hectic workload, burden, pressure. Many people are so busy with day to day life that they do not find time to do exercise, yoga, walking or jogging that will help in getting rid of depression. Here am going to tell simple technique which can be performed sitting any where and sholud be practied for 20 to 30 minutes daily.

This simple yoga asana is called Prithvi Mudra. Meaning of ‘Mudra’, a Sanskrit word, is ‘closure’ or ‘seal’. Mudra hand positions are physical gestures that effect energy flow of the body. The ancient practice of yoga links hand mudras to changing spiritual and mental aspects of a person. This Prithvi Mudra is also said to activate root chakra.


The ring finger and thumb lightly touch at the tips, remaining three fingers are held out gently (not ridged). Prithvi Mudra can be performed while sitting down in the Padma Asana (Lotus Pose) or Sukha Asana ( Easy Pose) or while standing up straight in the Tada Asana (Mountain Pose).

This hand mudra is also known as the “seal of life” or “seal of the sun.” The ring finger represents earth, energy, strength and endurance. The thumb represents fire and divine nature. When the two fingers are placed together in Surya Ravi Mudra, it is meant to symbolize and encourage energy, balance, health, and vitality.
